If there is one ultimate fact of life that sinks in deeper and deeper into my stubborn cranium every day, it’s this: You are not getting any younger. I admit, being 24 is still widely considered “young” in most societies, but something about reaching my mid-twenties is causing a tad bit of internal panic inside of me.
There have multiple occasions where I was slapped with the reality that my body is changing. It simply does not bounce back the way it used to. I recall taking a weekend trip to Santa Catalina Island a few weeks ago and feeling like I was hit by a truck when I returned. Since when did I get exhausted so quickly?
Upon accepting this realization and the fact that there is nothing I can do about aging, I asked myself the question, “So what are you going to do about it?”
I recently came across a quote Elizabeth Gilbert, author of the New York Times Best-Selling book Eat Pray Love, that I found incredibly profound:
“There’s a part of me which has always wanted to hear a man say, “Let me take care of you forever,” and I have never heard it spoken before. Over the last few years, I’d given up looking for that person, and learned how to say this heartening sentence to myself, especially in times of fear.”
So what I am going to do about it? I’m going to take care of myself from now on: emotionally, physically, mentally…
With summer almost coming to an end, my cousin and I packed our beach bags, had a joy ride along the Pacific Coast Highway and headed to beautiful El Matador Beach.
Just a few miles north of Malibu, El Matador Beach showcases towering cliffs and enormous rock formations, making one question whether they’re in Southern California at all! The crashing waves splashing against the rocks make the beach a perfect spot for a scenic photoshoot!
This past Sunday, my friend Dianne and I opted to lounge poolsidein an attempt to beat the sweltering California heat.
Dianne created a homemade watermelon fruit bowl filled with fresh watermelons, strawberries, black grapes, and blueberries! For refreshments, pineapple juice was my drink of choice while my sexy sidekick selected guyabano. Yummy!
Lucky for us, the pool was empty throughout the entire duration of our mini staycation! True to nature, we laughed, we danced, we splashed around, we sang Beyoncé and ate until our hearts’ content.
It’s days like these that I’m truly grateful for being able to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. Enjoying a beautiful Sunday in the company of one my dearest friends was enough to make both my tummy and heart very happy!
“It was one of those Zip-a-dee-doo-dah days – the kind of day where you can’t open your mouth without a song jumpin’ right out.”
Watch my brief video diary below for a glimpse of our fun-filled day!
Thank you reading [and watching]! Have a great week, everyone!
Last Saturday (July 5, 2014) happened to be my half-birthday! What better way to celebrate my 23 ½ years of life than by spending the whole day at the happiest place on Earth!
I ended up losing my Mickey ears after the first ride (Matterhorn), yet I had a blast nonetheless! Most of the rides didn’t take more than 20 minutes. To make the most out of the day, my family and I purchased park hopper tickets in order to visit both Disneyland and California Adventure!
The latter part of the day was spent at California Adventure. I’ve visited the theme park about 4 times since Carsland opened, and it never ceases to fascinate me. The attention to detail is unreal. It really does feel like you’re in the movie!
The line for the Radiator Springs Racers ride was 90-minutes, but thanks to our smart planning, we were able to get fast passes and bypass the long wait!
My family and I weren’t able to witness a fireworks show for 4th of July so these were definitely a treat!
Disneyland is always a good idea, and I can’t wait to come back!
